The Spanish Federation of Biotechnology (FEBiotec)

Valencia, Spain

The Spanish Federation of Biotechnology (FEBiotec), was founded on July 10th, 2008 with the aim of providing a new common framework of action for various biotech associations operating locally throughout Spain. It thus intends to represent them as a unit before administrations, institutions, companies and society in general. At the same time, this Federation would promote the work of each association, which focuses mainly on two key points:
1. Several activities aimed at the dissemination of biotechnology both as a science degree and an area of high economic and social impact.
2. The promotion and defense of the figure of a graduate in Biotechnology as a qualified professional and specialize in this area.

FEBiotec is an entity created by and for the Biotechnologist, who knows that Biotechnology is a profession clearly differentiated by other related professions and who fights for the recognition of it. However, far from limiting us in the advocacy of our profession, FEBiotec seek to offer affordable and high-quality formation, promoting the creation of synergies between professionals and divulgation in science in general and particularly in Biotechnology in the Spanish society.

The main objectives of FeBiotec are:
1. Represent the biotechnologists from all Spain in front of administrations, institutions, businesses and society in general.
2. Defend the prestige and prerogatives of the profession of Biotechnologist and the access with equal opportunities to jobs, either in the public sector or the private one.
3. Promote the creation of an Official Association of Biotechnologists.
4. Strengthen the investigation and the innovation in Biotechnology.
5. Foster the establishment of businesses in the biotechnology sector.
6. Encourage the creation of professional network for exchanging ideas and establishing collaborations.
7. Guide about ethical doubts which could arise due to the application of the Biotechnology.
