Senologic International Society (SIS)

Description

The Society (Société Internationale de Sénologie) was founded in 1976 by Dr. Charles-Marie Gross, father of the modern breast imaging and forger of the concept of senology.

Dr. Charles Marie Gros (1910 – 1984), was Professor of Medicine from 1950 – 1975, and Head of the Department of Radiotherapy and Radiology at University of Strasbourg, France. In 1963, he Created a new multidisciplinary medical specialty for the care of breast diseases, allowing scientific strictness and humanism, proposing to identify it with the term Sénologie.

Since 1976, the Senologic International Society (SIS) aims on bringing together the national societies of Senology around the world and improving the knowledge and quality of breast health assistance worldwide, counting with the valuable contribution of our Presidents and Board of Directors.

SIS Constituents

Founded 35 years ago by Charles-Marie Gros, in Strasbourg, France, the SIS – Senologic International Society aims on bringing together the national societies of Senology around the world. During this period, the development of the specialty also led to a significant increase in the importance of the senologic national societies and, consequently, of the SIS. The Senologic International Society is being structured step by step towards fulfilling its main role, which is to represent the true alliance between all the senologic entities in the various affiliated countries.
