In this CNV the RPE cell layer was separated from the newly formed vessels (arrowheads) and the fibrin and exudative material containing layer below by a more or less acellular fibrous layer (asterisk). This fibrous layer was often more than 100 μm thick. RPE cells (arrow) cover the neovascular membrane indicating it predominately as occult. This CNV was extracted from a patient out of group 2 but is representative of all patient groups. |
