Figure 1: Cataract surgeries, intracameral cefuroxime injection cases and the incidence of postoperative endophthalmitis in a China ophthalmology department from 2009 to 2013. Over the past five years, the number of cataract surgeries increased every year. Initially in 2009, intracameral cefuroxime injection was adopted by only one of 5 cataract surgeons. From 2011, all surgeons started to perform intracameral cefuroxime injection. With the increasing use of prophylactic intracameral injection, the incidence of postoperative endophthalmitis was greatly reduced. |
