Figure 2: Body parameters of STZ induced T1D in the 15-week old Balb/c, C57BL/6, and 129/Sv mice. 15-week old Balb/c, C57BL/6, and 129/ Sv were treated with vehicle or 40 mg/kg STZ for 5 consecutive days and then harvested at 40 days post first injection (dpi). General body parameters were measured at 40 dpi. STZ-induced diabetes caused an (A) increase in blood glucose levels and (B) decrease in body mass independent of mouse strain. However, the magnitude of blood glucose induction by STZ was strain dependent. Both (C) Lean muscle (tibialis anterior) and (D) femoral fat mass were decreased by T1D.
