Improvement of Jute Packages to Resist Insects during Storage of Bean Seeds

The most important factor for obtaining good fiber is the strength of adhesion between fiber and polymer. Jute bags were treated with aqueous extracts from two insecticidal plants, Chenopodium ambrosioides and Lantana camara, to reduce damage to stored bean seeds by Acanthoscelides obtectus. The hydrophobic nature of jute bags makes it difficult to adhere to plants extract due to the presence of hydroxyl groups in various constituents of jute and treatment of jute bags with sodium hydroxide (5%) alleviate such problem. Infested bean seeds were kept in small treated jute bags (infestation rate 1%) and stored for six months in order to evaluate the protection efficiency of the fabric against damage to bean seeds. Alkali jute bags were treated with different concentrations of L.camara and C. ambrosiodes extract (10, 20, 30, 40%), The least percent of bean seed damaged 2.5% was recorded for alkali jute bags treated with 40% L.camara extract.

Measuring Reflectance Spectra of Textile Fabrics by Scanner

This study presents a practical approach for estimation reflectance spectra by means of scanner. New methods were based on polynomial regression, neural network, neuro-fuzzy and principal component analysis techniques. Obtained results indicate that the recovery error decreases with increase number of principal component and number of terms in a polynomial. Also, application of principal component increase accuracy of reflectance measurement. The best estimation is obtained by principal component analysis and artificial neural network (PCA- ANNET) with 0.0297 RMS and 6.14 ΔE*ab error.

Recycling the Cellulosic Biomass to Competent Advanced Material

Sereni is a common plant found in abundance through-out the world. Its stem fiber is rich in cellulose that was graft copolymerized with different vinyl monomers. Variable graft yield was obtained depending on properties of the monomers, reaction conditions and other physico-chemical factors. The graft copolymers were characterized by SEM & FTIR and studied for change in properties like swelling and dye-uptake behavior. These modified fibers were then used as reinforcement in the composites. These composites were then evaluated for physico-chemicomechanical properties. The modified fiber and the composites could be useful for various industrial and scientific applications.

Cad Software Based Design of Yarn Guide Profile

The traversing mechanism on a winding machine causes the yarn guide and hence the yarn to reciprocate. This work is an attempt to eliminate the too and fro motion of the yarn guide wherein the guide profile ensures proper transfer of yarn with the desired pattern and pitch. The change in yarn direction after completing one axial traverse poses the most challenging aspect in designing an efficient guide profile. With idealizing assumption of the yarn behaving as a thin wire under the taut condition between three support points at the top ring, profile point on the guide and the bobbin, the ideal profile for consistent guidance of the yarn has been developed.

Production, Characterization and Antibacterial Activity of Mucor rouxii DSM-119 Chitosan

The production, purification and antibacterial effect of chitosan from Mucor rouxii strain DSM-1191 were investigated throughout current study. Chitosan was characterized by infrared spectroscopy, titration and average molecular weight. Furthermore, the antibacterial activity of chitosan produced from Mucor rouxii DSM-1191, against Escherichia coli and Micrococcus leutus was determined. Scanning electron micrographs of treated Micrococcus leutus with fungal chitosan are also presented.
