It is also called secondary bone cancer, it is the most common bone cancer. It is a cancer that starts somewhere else in the body and spreads (metastasises) to the bone. The most common cancers that spread to the bone are cancers of the breast, prostate, lung, kidney and thyroid.
Pain, swelling, fracture, numbness , even weakness, Paralysis, Hyperkalaemia, Spinal cord compression, High blood calcium levels.
Researchers are using this knowledge to develop new tests to find bone metastases and to develop therapies to prevent and treat bone metastases. Systemic therapies include chemotherapy, hormone therapy, or other medicines that are taken by mouth or injected into the blood.Local treatments include external radiation therapy, surgery, and related techniques. These treatments can help relieve pain or other symptoms caused by one or a few bone metastases.
Forty-seven trials measuring QOL in patients with bone metastases were identifi ed. Table 1 presents the patient population number, treatment setting, and assessment tools in each study. Of the 47 studies, 18 included bisphosphonate treatments, 12 included surgical/orthopedic interventions, 8 involved radiotherapy and 9 investigated other treatment options for patients with bone metastases (Table 2). The 47 studies involved a total of 10,844 patients. The number of participants in the studies ranged from 7–1,171 with a median number 85.
