It is one of the known infections which are sexually transmitted. It mainly affects men and women. Genital herpes is caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV). Virus is transmitted through sexual contact. After post infection the virus is inactive in body and can activate numerous times in body.
Symptoms and Treatment
Its symptoms are pain, itching and sores in the genital area. The time, when the symptoms are visible, HSV type 1 mostly affect the lips causing sores known as fever blisters or cold sores, but it also can infect the genital area and produce sores there. There are no specific treatments for genital herpes however medications can be preferred to minimize the risk of infection.
In Argentina, about 12/50 females are suffering from these disease while in females 14/76 males are infected by this disease. HSV-1 has been known to be connected with or labial herpes and HSV-2 with genital herpes. However, investigation says that increased trend of genital HSV-1in most of the parts of the world. In a report presented, the proportion of HSV-1 anogenital isolates rose from <15% in the early 1980s to around 45% in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
