Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) involves chronic inflammation of all or part of your digestive tract. IBD primarily includes ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.
Severe diarrhea, pain, fatigue and weight loss. IBD can be debilitating and sometimes leads to life-threatening complications.

Doctors use one of two approaches to treatment: "step-up," which starts with milder drugs first, versus "top-down," which gives people stronger drugs earlier in the treatment process. Approximately 1.6 million Americans currently have IBD, a growth of about 200,000 since the last timeCCFA reported this figure (in 2011).As many as 70,000 new cases of IBD are diagnosed in the United States each year.There may be as many as 80,000 children in the United States with IBD.
