Noninferiority of dexmedetomindine+sevoflurane combination as compared to the baseline sevoflurane alone for any given variable was reached when the difference [(steady-state (dexmedetomidine+sevoflurane) – baseline (Sevoflurane)]/baseline(Sevoflurane) and its associated 95% CI fell completely within the range of plus or minus 20% indicated by the gray column. The figure shows the data for all study groups, however, appropriate power to conduct non-inferiority testing existed in the normal and cardiac transplantation physiology, but not in the one-ventricle, physiology groups.
