Venous blood was analyzed for electrolytes potassium (K+), phosphorus (P), calcium (Ca2+), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, total bilirubin (T. Bil.), albumin, hemoglobin and hematocrit. Samples were sent both before the start of surgery (baseline) and at the end of surgery (1-1.25 hrs for donors and 5-7 hrs for recipients). An additional mid-surgery sample (2-2.5 hrs) was also sent for analysis in the case of recipients. Normal values for Yorkshire swine are provided in parentheses in the top row.
