treatments
Figure 1: Experimental design and treatments. Sheep were subjected to short days (SD; 9 h light:15 h darkness) for two months (October-November) followed by two months (April-May) of long days (LD; 15 h light:9 h darkness). In both seasons, one group (n=12) received food freely, and the other group (n=12) was fasted for 48 h before the initiation of the experiment. The following treatments were used: 1) saline (control), 2) ghrelin (2.5 μg/kg b.w.), 3) m-CPP (serotonin 5-HT2B/2C receptor agonist; 2.5 mg/kg b.w.) or 4) ghrelin with m-CPP. Arrows indicate intravenous (i.v.) injections administered at 0 or 15 min of the 180-min experimental period. Blood samples (5 ml) were collected at 15-min intervals throughout the experiment.
