Need for EVD/VPS placement and transfusion requirement in addition to rates of wound infection, CVA, UTI, and pneumonia were significantly higher in diabetics. No statistically significant difference was noted in rates of postoperative seizure, DVT, PE, MI, or death postoperatively between diabetics and non-diabetics. Overall, patients with type 2 DM were 4.1 times more likely to experience at least one postoperative complication.
