Figure 2: ECM components have been shown to have an important function in the formation of PCO but also in its inhibition. Laminin and collagen IV have therefore been tested on their impact on LEC adhesion and proliferation with all three APC coated IOLs. Both components showed a trend towards more proliferated LECs in all three IOLs. However, collagen IV showed a significant increase in LEC proliferation for IOL 1 and 3 while laminin increased LEC proliferation only slightly in IOL 1.
