Data source: Adults 19+ years of age participating in NHANES 2001-2010.
Non-Consumers were the referent group.
Adjusted for: Age, Gender, Race/Ethnicity, Poverty Index Ratio, Physical Activity Level, Smoker Status, Alcohol Consumption.
Adjusted for: Age, Gender, Race/Ethnicity, Poverty Index Ratio, Physical Activity Level, Smoker Status, Alcohol Consumption, and BMI.
Mean readings were used for blood pressure measurements. Reduced HDL-cholesterol was defined as <40 mg/dL (males), <50 mg/dL (females); high triglycerides, ≥150 mg/dL or taking anti-hyperlipidemic medications; high fasting glucose, ≥ 110 mg/dL or taking insulin or other hypoglycemic agents. Elevated LDL-C ≥100 mg/dL Metabolic syndrome was defined using the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute Adult Treatment Panel III criteria; that is having 3 or more of the following risk factors: abdominal obesity, WC>102 cm (males), >88 cm (females); hypertension, SBP ≥130 mmHg or DBP ≥85 mmHg or taking anti-hypertensive medications; HDL-cholesterol, <40 mg/dL (males), <50 mg/dL (females); high triglycerides, ≥150 mg/dL or taking anti-hyperlipidemic medications; high fasting glucose, ≥110 mg/dL or taking insulin or other hypoglycemic agents. Abbreviations: OR: Odds Ratio; LCL: Lower Confidence level; UCL: Upper Confidence Level; HDL-C: High Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol; LDL-C: Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol.
