Accumulation of white adipose or cholesterol in tissues in response to obesity or hypercholesterolemia, respectively, has been shown to potentially affect the structure and/or function of initial and collecting lymphatic vessels. Conversely, poor lymphatic drainage has been proposed to contribute to the accumulation of adipose tissue and cholesterol in tissues. As a consequence, this interplay is expected to impact inflammation, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
