Cationic amphipathic HDPs connect to the bacterial surface via strong electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions made possible by the acidic phospholipid content (anionic) in the prokaryotic cell membrane. This is distinct from normal eukaryotic cell membranes that are electro-neutral consequent to the cholesterol content in their phospholipid bilayer.
