Figure 6: Serum cytokine levels in immunized and non-immunized animals, before and after parasite challenge. Serum levels of IFN-γ, IL-2, IL-10 and IL4 were determined by flow cytometry. The concentrations of particular cytokines were established by comparing the obtained data with a standard curve for each experiment. The data are represented as mean ± SD. All measurements were performed in duplicate, with serum from four mice per group. The cytokines were analyzed before and after parasite challenge and compared using one-way analysis of variance and Tukey’s honestly significant difference test. Significant differences were detected as follows. For IL-2: rTcSP2-CHP and rTcSP2-ATP vs. non-immunized mice (* p<0.05) and rTcSP2-CHP vs. rTcSP2 and rTcSP2-ATP (# P<0.01). For IL-10: rTcSP2, rTcSP2-CHP and rTcSP2-ATP vs. non-immunized mice (# p<0.01) and rTcSP2-CHP vs. rTcSP2 and rTcSP2-ATP (*p<0.05). For IFN-γ: rTcSP2-ATP vs. rTcSP2 and rTcSP2-CHP (*p<0.05). For IL-4: PBS vs. rTcSP2, rTcSP2-CHP and rTcSP2-ATP (*p<0.05).
