Research Interest

Research Interest

Dr. Abdolrahman Shams Nateri research interest include to investigate how signalling pathways integrate their action to affect cell specific fates is normal and cancer tissues. We study the molecular and cellular nature of a normal and cancer “stem cell niche” including the process of epithelial-mesenchymal transition; under physiological conditions in response to “loss or gain of function”, for some of the key regulators e.g. FBXW7 (Fbw7, hCDC4), ß-Catenin/TCF4, NANOG and their molecular partners. We are modelling the tumour microenvironment and generating intestinal tissue-specific gene-targeted murine models for functional genomics analysis, protein-protein interaction, epigenetic, transcriptome and proteome screening assays for mechanistic analysis and how cancer develops in the intestine and bowel. Our research should lead to new ways to tackle intestinal/colorectal cancer, new ways to treat or even prevent the disease in the future one of the word-wild most common cancers. Our research grants are supported by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and Cancer Research UK (CR-UK).
