Anton Albert van Niekerk is a South African bioethicist and academic based at Stellenbosch University.

Biography
Van Niekerk is Professor of Philosophy since 1989, Chair of the Philosophy Department and Director of the Centre for Applied Ethics. His research is mainly concentrated on the areas of bioethics, the philosophy of religion and the philosophy of the human sciences. He has written, edited and co-authored 17 books and more than 130 peer reviewed articles and book chapters. He has done extensive research in the areas of the moral problematic related to HIV/Aids in Africa, ethical issues related to new genetic technologies, moral theories.
Research Interest

Research is mainly concentrated on the areas of bioethics, the philosophy of religion and the philosophy of the human sciences. He has done extensive research in the areas of the moral problematic related to HIV/Aids in Africa, ethical issues related to new genetic technologies, moral theories, the history and social functions of bioethics in South Africa, research ethics, models of rationality, hermeneutics, contemporary models of religious faith and the pragmatist notion of religion.
