Dr. B.D.Banerjee is working as a Professor of Biochemistry, Department of Biochemistry, University College of Medical Sciences since November 2000 and also currently holding the position of Head, Department of Medical Biochemistry, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi since January 2009. Before joining Delhi University, as Reader in the year 1992, he has worked at National Institute of Communicable Diseases as JRF, SRF, ARO, Research Scientist and Senior Research Officer between 1980 and 1987 and as Assistant Professor at All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health, Kolkata, since 1988 to 1992 (October) after obtaining PhD degree in Biochemistry from Aligarh Muslim University. He possessed more than two decades of Research/Teaching experience at under-and post graduate level (MBBS, M.Sc., MD, PhD, DNB, MVPH, DPH, DMCW, DIH, Diploma in Dietetics etc.) in various capacity. He has been also associated in the Teaching/ Research programme of M.Sc. and PhD students under School of Environmental Studies/ Department of Environmental Biology and ACBR, University of Delhi as Coordinator/Visiting Faculty/Examiner and Research Collaborator in the field of Environmental Toxicology and Immunotoxicology since last 10 years. He has supervised more than 50 PhD/MD/DNB students as Supervisor/Co-Supervisor. He has published more than 100 research papers [Citation Index (h-index of Scopus) of 84 research papers (1996-2010) is 19] in various International/national journals of high repute (Impact factor up to 12.80). He has also executed 20 research projects till date as a Principal Investigator/ Co-Investigator and few are under active consideration. He is actively involved in the area of Biochemistry, Basic Toxicology and Oxidative Stress, Toxicogenomics and human health, Environmental Biology and Immunotoxicology. Specifically he has developed an expertise in one of the thrust area ‘Xenobiotic induced immunomodulation and Neurotoxicity’ during his career and contributed immensely in this subject in last 30 years.
His research concentrates on identification of xenobiotics’ exposure hazards and assessing its risk in vivo and in vitro with reference to Immunotoxicology, Toxicogenomics and Neurotoxicology.
