Biography | ||
Prof. Bernhard Baune (PhD, MD, MPH) is a Researcher, Clinician and Chair of Psychiatry at the University of Adelaide since Jan 2011. Previously, he was Professor and Chair of Psychiatry and Psychiatric Neuroscience at James Cook University, QLD (2008 - 20 10). Prof. Baune is Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrist (FRANZCP), Australia. His research emphasis is on the Neuroscience, Neurobiology and Translational Research in Psychiatric Disorders with a focus on Mood Disorders a nd Cognitive Dysfunction. An area of current research activity is on the role of immune system relevant to mood disorders, cognitive dysfunction and medical comorbidities, cardiovascular and met abolic diseases in particular. Prof. Baune has developed parti cular animal models on the involvement of the immune system in cognitive function and emotion processing. Prof. Baune has obtained his medical quali fications (basic medical degree; Dr. med. ; V enia Legendi for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy) at the Universit y of Muenster, and he is a Specialist in Psychiatry and Psychot h erapy (Ärztekammer Westfalen - Lippe; Mü nster) Germany. Prof. Baune headed the research group “Genetics and Epidemiology of Mood Disorders” at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Muenster, Germany (Prof. Dr. Volker Arolt) for two years (Jan. 2004 - Dec. 2005) and prior to tha t he carried out research at St. George’s School of Medical, University of London (UCL) . Prof. Baune continues strong collaborations with the Department of Psychiatry, UKM (Prof. Volker Arolt) on research areas such as the involvement of the immune system in mood disorders (Prof. Dr. Volker Arolt), Pharmacogenetics ( Prof. Dr. Katharina Domschke), Neuropsychology (Prof. Thomas Suslow), ECT - research (Prof. Peter Zwanzger) and Imaging Genetic Studies ( Prof. Dr. Udo Dannlowski , Unviersity of Marburg ), particul arly in mood disorders. Prof. Baune has ongoing excellent and longstanding collaborations with the Institute of Epidemiology and Social Medicine, University of Muenster (Prof. Dr. Klaus Berger) , currently on the relationship between Depression and Cardiova scular Disease in a longitudinal study (BiDirect) . |
