Biography

Professor Bing Song graduated from China Medical University and achieved MD in 1995, and achieved MSc in 1998. He visited Hamamatsu University School of Medicine Japan between 1997 and 1999 as a visiting scholar, during which time he received scientific training in Photo Medical Research Centre. Professor Song joined Professors Colin McCaig and Min Zhao’s lab at School of Medical Sciences, University of Aberdeen, UK in 1999 as a postdoc research fellow, and achieved his PhD in 2004. In 2005, he was awarded a prestigious Royal Society University Research Fellowship for 8 years, and promoted to senior lecturer in 2007. In 2009, Professor Song joined School of Dentistry, Cardiff University, UK as a chair, and expanded his research topics to stem cells replacement therapy in treating central nervous system diseases.

Research Interest

Professor Song’s research interests are focused on physiological electric signals controlled cell behaviours including directed cell migration, oriented cell division and targeted differentiation during wound healing and neurogenesis. He has been actively investigating signalling pathways, molecules and genes in the regulation of such events. One of his research projects is concerning the neural stem cells replacement therapy in the treatment of spinal cord injury using multi-disciplinary approaches coordinating with nanotechnology. His team is also trying to characterize dental pulp stem cells derived neuronal cells as alternative replacement therapy cell resource.
