Biography

Dr. Chaim M. Roifman is currently working at Department of Pediatrics, Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto. His focus of research includes the identification and functional characterization of novel signal transduction pathways in normal lymphoid tissues and their role in immunodeficiency and leukemia/lymphoma. This work has resulted in the cloning of a T-cell specific tyrosine phosphatase, "Lyp", and protein tyrosine kinase, "Jak2". Prof. Chaim team have previously shown that Jak2 appears to play a critical role in leukemogenesis. They are developing Jak2 knock-out mice to further the understanding of its function. They also developing potent, specific and non-toxic inhibitors of Jak2 as potential chemotherapy agents.
