Biography
Dr. Francesco Panza is a geriatrician and gerontologist at the Department of Geriatrics, Center for Aging Brain, Memory Unit, and University of Bari, Italy with a Ph.D. degree on cancerogenesis, immunology, and aging at the University of Bari, Bari, Italy. At present, he also collaborates as Senior Researcher with the Geriatric Unit & Laboratory of Gerontology and Geriatrics, Department of Medical Sciences, IRCCS “Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza”, San Giovanni Rotondo, Foggia, Italy. He has over 15 years’ experience on Alzheimer's disease, related dementias, and mental health research. His main research interests are the role of diet and lipoprotein metabolism in cognitive decline, dementia, and cerebrovascular disease, with focus on alcohol, cholesterol, and dietary fatty acids; the genetic susceptibility factors in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias; the genetics of human longevity; the epidemiology of mild cognitive impairment and related predementia syndromes; the relationships between dementia and predementia syndromes and depression and mechanisms underlying; the role of lipoprotein(a) in cognitive decline, vascular disease, and human longevity; the epidemiology of vascular risk factors and metabolic syndrome in Alzheimer’s disease and related entities, and the beta-amyloid and tau protein targeting drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Francesco Panza has 257 over peer reviewed publications.
