Biography

He completed a PhD in the Division of Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics at UMIST, UK in 1995.He attended Trinity House Navigation School before entering a marine engineering cadetship with P & O. and took his first degree in 1990 after completing a sandwich degree at the local polytechnic, gaining experience at Capper Pass & Sons and National Vulcan Safety Products Ltd,.He continued his research to develop modules for the Building Services and Fire Engineering programmes, rising to Principal Lecturer and Head of a Research Institute. In 2008 he was appointed Head of John Tyndall Institute for Nuclear Research.Further success led in 2011 to the creation of UCLan Nuclear with an expanded portfolio of work and staff, retaining John Tyndall Institute as the research arm of the group.Until 2011, Jonathan also led UCLan's involvement with the nuclear skills agenda, collaborating with national companies, sector skills council bodies and local educational and training partners to produce innovative demand-led courses. He is currently serving as a Principal Lecturer and Head of UCLan Nuclear Research. He is keenly interested in Fire, Nuclear and Process Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on applications of fluid mechanics, thermal dynamics and industrial ventilation. He is the Editor-in-Chief/Editorial Board Member of many peer reviewed journals and his area of expertise credits him with many publications in national and international journals. He is committed to highest standards of excellence and it proves through his authorship of many books.
