Biography

Dr. Grace Hao is a Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders at North Carolina Central University. Her academic background includes a M.D., 1994, in Preventative medicine from Southeastern University Medical College in Nanjing, China. She has a Master's degree in Genetics from China Academy of Medical Sciences/ Beijing Union Medical University with extensive training in genetics and genetic research. She also completed a one-year doctoral research of molecular cell biology at Ohio University. She received her Ph.D., 2002, in speech-language pathology at Ohio University, Athens with a focus on the effects of race, gender and aging on speech production. She teaches graduate courses in Language Disorders, Voice Disorders, Neuroanatomy, Motor Speech Disorders, and Autism. She is a co-author with Dr. Layton on the first autism diagnostic test developed and standardized in China called the “Chinese Autism Diagnostic Scale.” She has numerous articles, book chapters, along with two tests in the areas of Autism and Voice. Professor Hao holds several appointments and membership in professional organizations. These include The American Speech-Language hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP), The North Carolina State Board Speech-Language pathology License, President and Founding member of the Chinese International Speech Language Hearing, an Association Member of the ASHA International Issues Board (2010-2012), a Member of the Task Force for Chinese Medical Association-Rehabilitation (Standards for SLP-China). She is also a Visiting Professor at the Hong Kong University; Sun Yet-sen University, Ganzhow; Southern University of China, Guangzhou; and Beijing Language and Culture University.
