Biography
Helane Wahbeh, ND, Assistant Professor, Department of Neurology, was quoted in a Washington Post article about a teen phenomenon known as i-dosing. The article asks the question: Are kids getting high just by listening to music? I-dosing is a trendy new name for “binaural beats,” where a tone of one frequency is played into the right ear and a slightly different frequency is played into the left. According to the article, listeners believe these beats synchronize brain waves, replicating the experience of being high on anything from alcohol to true love. When asked about the effects binaural beats have on measuring an increase in brain-wave activity, Dr. Wahbeh said, “There was no increase at all.”
