Biography
Dr. Henk Schallig, is a trained parasitologist (received his Ph.D. from the Free University, Amsterdam, The Netherlands) with ample knowledge of immunology and molecular biology and is accredited by the National Committee for Medical-Biological Research Training in the Netherlands (SMBWO) as Medical-Biological Scientific Researcher in Parasitology (April 1998) and Medical Microbiology (February 2001). He was also appointed as academic instructor “Parasitology” by SMBWO. He is also appointed as Biological Safety Officer of KIT. Transfer of knowledge and capacity building are intrinsic to Dr. Schallig’s activities and he has built up extensive experience in training and conducting workshops. Numerous technicians, M.Sc. and Ph.D. students from the Netherlands as well as from developing countries have been trained by him. In particular he is involved in parasitology courses at different Dutch Universities, the Netherlands Tropical Doctors course, and several workshops in disease endemic countries (Sudan, Kenya, Rwanda, Nigeria and Suriname). Besides his research activities, Dr. Schallig is involved in advisory and consultancy activities.
