Biography
Ilaria Rivolta since 2007 is Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator at the Dept of Health Sciences,University of Milano Bicocca, Monza. The main purpose of the research conducted in the laboratory of Dr Rivolta regards the investigation of alterations in the physiology of the cell plasma membrane. In particular- the study of the dysfunctions of ion channel currents with the goal to elucidate novel molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying human diseases (channelopathies)- the study of the effect of the interaction of the plasma membrane with nanoparticles functionalized for drug delivery- the study of the sensing mechanism of the oxygen tension (pO2) at the level of alveolar cells plasma membrane with the goal to understand the remodeling of the lung parenchyma. His training was of a electrophysiological : she was involved in biophysics of ion channels , especially of genetic against Nav1.5 , the cardiac isoform of sodium channel voltage-dependent . Mutations in this protein are linked to inherited arrhythmogenic diseases , such as Long QT syndrome and Brugada syndrome .
