Biography
Jitendra Kumar Trivedi is a Professor in Department of Psychiatry, King George’s Medical University, Lucknow, India.He was an excellent psychiatrist and one of the most eminent psychiatrists India has produced. He was an academician, researcher, teacher and leader of rare abilities and wisdom. His school and college education was at Lucknow his native place from Mahanagar Boys School and Lucknow Christian College. He entered KGMC as a MBBS student in 1969. He completed his M.B.B.S. in 1973 and M.D. (Psychiatry) from same institution in 1977. He joined the department of Psychiatry, KGMC as lecturer in 1978. He became Reader in 1987 and Professor in 1995. He also served as Head of the department from November 2008 to March 2009. He served as a contractual professor in the department from March 2009 to September 2013. He served as a faculty member for about 35 years. He was a regular delegate of almost all the National and Zonal Conferences of Indian Psychiatric Society right from his post graduate days. He held many official positions of IPS. He was President of Indian Psychiatric Society – Central Zone in 1997. He became Editor, Indian Journal of Psychiatry (1997-2002) amd President of Indian Psychiatric Society in 2004-05. He was a President-Elect of Indian Association for Social Psychiatry, member of Executive Council of Preventive Psychiatry Section of World Psychiatric Association and Chairman- Preventive Psychiatry Section of World Association of Social Psychiatry. He was also Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists UK and Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He was one of the foremost researchers in Psychiatry in India and conducted researches in collaboration with National Institute of Mental Health, USA; John Hopkins Institute, USA; Indian Council of Medical Research, World Health Organization, World Psychiatric Association and World Association of Social Psychiatry etc. He was one of the pioneering investigators of psychiatric drug trials in the country. He has more than 300 publications in national and international Journals. He received many prestigious awards in psychiatry including Tilak Venkoba Rao Oration, Marfatia Award, Dr. D. L. N. Murthy Rao Oration, Dr. V. N. Bagadia Oration and Dr. N. N. DE Oration among many others.
