Dr. Julian Lai obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Toronto and his Ph.D. in Psychoneuroimmunology from the University of Hong Kong. He joined the Department of Applied Social Studies of the City University of Hong Kong as a full-time faculty member in 1994. His research interest has diversified since then. In addition to research on psychophysiology, he has also engaged in research on personality and social psychology, health psychology, and environmental psychology. One of Dr. Lai’s major contributions is the adoption of salivary cortisol as a biomarker to examine the health impact of positive personal and interpersonal characteristics in older Chinese people. He has published more than 40 papers, which appear primarily in internationally refereed journals in psychology. Dr. Lai has been serving as an expert reviewer for a number of prestigious journals in psychology. He is a former President (2004-2005) of the Hong Kong Psychological Society, a former editor of the Journal of Psychology in Chinese Societies (2009-2012), and an Honorary Research Fellow of the Center on Behavioral Health of the University of Hong Kong. Currently, he is being appointed as Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Social Studies of the City University of Hong Kong.
