Kestur Gundappa Satyanarayana

Biography

Born on October 8, 1942, Kestur, Tumkur district, State of Karnataka. Received B.Sc.Degree from the University of Mysore, Mysore (1963), M.Sc. from the University of Bangalore, Bangalore (1965) and Ph.D.(Physics-Metallurgical Engg.) from the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (1972). Presently he is Honorary Professor at the Poornaprajna Institute for Scientific Research, Bangalore. Was Visiting Scientist at EMBRAPA, Colombo, Brazil during Nov. 2012- April 2013. Was also Consulting Chief Scientist Acharya R&D Center, Acharya Group of Institutes, Bangalore (India) and Head, R&D Center in B.M.S. College of Engineering, Bangalore (India) during the period 2007-2011. Before this he was Visiting Professor (June 2003-June 2007) in the Chemistry Department at the UFRN (Curitiba-Brazil) and FINEP Visiting Researcher (April 2008-September 2009). Guided students for Master s and Doctoral programs and taught post-graduates in PIPE of the University. Served in the Regional Research Laboratory, Trivandrum of the CSIR, Government of India in several positions, including the post of Director of the laboratory, until his retirement in October 2002. Was responsible for the initiating the Materials Laboratory in RRL-T. Has published about 360 papers scientific journals and proceedings of Conferences, edited / contributed to 29 books / monographs till 2015. Was the third in Brazil for the last one decade to publish a paper in highly rated Journal-Progress in Polymer Science with high Impact Factor and this paper being in the Top 25 Hottest Articles in Chemistry during 2010. Another paper of his published in Composites Part A, has the Honor of Top 10 Cited (articles published in the last five years) as per the Extracts of Scopus and another published in J Colloid Interface Sci; 2005 having the Honor of first of 10 Top Citations of a paper in an Elsevier Journal. Recently, he and his colleagues have been invited to contribute a Review Paper by the J. Prog. Polym. Sci. which is being prepared for submission. Presently Editorial member of the Open Journal of Polymer Chemistry and Member of Reviewer-Int. J. Expt. Spect. Techniques. Was Guest Editor of special editions of J.Metals, Mater. Proc.(2005) [R & D in UFPR ] and in 2001[R & D in RRL-T ]. He was co-editor of the book Clay Surfaces Fundamentals and Applications, Academic Press [2004]. He has 118 articles with 1482 citations in Peer reviewed Journals with scientific factor H = 22 (based on 10th December 2012- ISI - ISI/ Web of Science). He has 18 patents. He has guided nine students for Ph.D. and five for Masters Degree. Currently he is guiding one student for doctorate at the Federal University of Parana, Curitiba, Brazil. He has delivered a number of invited lectures in various national and international conferences, received several honors and awards. Some of these awards and honors include: Constituted an award (2006)in his name for the best paper on Natural fibers and their composites in ACUN-5, Fellow of Kerala Academy of Sciences (2004), MRSI Medal-2001, Joint Winner of Binani Gold Medal (1993) of IIM; WIPO International Gold Medal (1985); NRDC Independence Day Award (1985); BHUMET Golden Jubilee Fellowship (1991); JSPS Fellowship (1975-76). Has participated in various committees and organized several conferences. He was a member of the Academic Council of Cochin University of Science & Technology; American Society of Materials and Institution of Engineers, Editorial Board of Bull. Material Science of India and Metal News of the Indian Institute of Metals, Life Member of various Professional Bodies IIM / MRSI / ISN T / ISAMPE / EMSI, etc. Invited Reviewer for more than 30 international Reviewed Journals also invited to contribute Chapters. His areas of interest include Composites both Metal Matrix and polymer matrix with natural fibers. In recent years his emphasis has been on Green composites biofuels and development of new materials based on agro-industrial waste.
