Luca Bini

Laboratory of Functional Proteomics Molecular Biology Department University of Siena Italy

Biography
Luca Bina is currently a Professor of Biochemistry and Proteome Sciences at the Department of Life Sciences, University of Siena, Italy. He graduated in Biology before completing a PhD in Biotechnology at the University of Siena. He spent several periods at the Institute Pasteur in Paris (France) and at the University Hospital in Geneva (Switzerland) where he learned basic proteomic technologies and related concepts. From 1998, he is the responsible of the Functional Proteomics laboratory at the University of Siena.  Since 20 years, Luca is active in the global approach to the study of proteins. He is internationally well known as a contributor to the foundation of proteome science. In fact he is one of the organizers, together with Prof. D. Hochstarsser and Prof. J.-C. Sanchez (University of Geneva) and Prof. V. Pallini (University of Siena), of the well-known Siena Meeting entitled 'FROM GENOME TO PROTEOME', where, during the first edition in 1994, the term proteome has been introduced for the first time by Mark Wilkins (Macquarie University, Sydney).  Luca is one of the founders of the European Proteomics Association as well as of the Italian Proteomics Association and he is on the editorial boards of several leading proteomics journals.
