Dr. Chuong is a native of Florida. He completed his undergraduate degree at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA and then attended the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa, FL. He completed radiation oncology residency training at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center where he also served a chief resident. Dr. Chuong's research centers around use of advanced radiation techniques for the treatment gastrointestinal cancers. This includes the use of low dose fractionated radiation therapy as a chemopotentiator, stereotactic body radiation therapy, and proton therapy. Furthermore, his research also involves the combination of radiation therapy with novel systemic agents including immunotherapy. Dr. Chuong is the principal investigator of several clinical trials at the University of Maryland and is actively involved in clinical trial design as well as translational research.Dr. Chuong's primary focus is using radiation therapy to treat gastrointestinal cancers and lymphomas. He is proficient in the use intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image guided radiation therapy (IGRT), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), and selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) using yttrium-90 microspheres. He also will be treating patients with proton therapy at the Maryland Proton Treatment Center in Baltimore.
