M. Jason Highsmith

Biography
Dr. Highsmith has practiced physical therapy since 2003. His practice experience includes outpatient orthopedics, outpatient prosthetics, sub-acute rehabilitation, and skilled nursing facility settings. He was project manager for the University's federal "Demonstration Project on Prosthetics and Orthotics". Recently, he has assisted persons with limb loss to participate in multiple extreme athletic and recreational pursuits such as mountaineering, kayaking, rock climbing, running and more. As part of his clinical research he routinely trains persons with amputation to utilize novel features of emerging assistive technologies to determine if integration into daily function is possible.
Research Interest

Dr. Highsmith’s research interests include: comparative efficacy of prosthetic componentry and rehabilitation techniques for persons with limb loss; functional outcome and human performance measurement techniques in the amputee population; amputee gait; technical aspects of prosthetic fabrication, fitting, adjustment and alignment.
