Biography

Dr. M. P. SRIVASTAVA, Professor , Coordinator UGC-SAP ,Department of Physics and Astrophysics (2004-todate), University of Delhi ,after having topped in M. Sc.(Physics) in 1965 from Lucknow University and recipient of a Gold medal, received his Ph.D. degree from Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore in 1969.He has been actively involved in research since 1965 and has been teaching at Delhi University since 1970.He is the author of about one hundred research papers in journals of International repute and has got two process patents to his credit. He has supervised nineteen students for their research work who have been awarded Ph.D. degree from Delhi University. He nucleated and developed a full-fledged Experimental Plasma Research group which is involved with basic Plasma phenomena and plasma processing of nanomaterials, particularly on phase changes of materials in thin film form and thin film deposition and Nanofabrication of materials using Dense Plasma Focus device. He has been responsible in networking Plasma Research laboratory at Delhi University with 33 member Institutions in 21 countries spread over Asia and Africa with his efforts. Earlier he had made important contributions in the field of Kinetic Theory of plasmas, Waves and Instabilities in plasmas, Laser Plasma Interactions, Positron Annihilation in gases, Nonlinear wave-wave and Wave particle Interaction in plasmas. He is listed in Marquis USA “Who’s Who in the World”. He has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2001-02.He has lectured at various Universities/Institutes in USA, USSR, Europe, Japan, Australia and South East Asia, and has delivered invited lectures in a large number of International and National conferences where in he has also Chaired various Sessions. He has been Platinum Jubilee Lecturer of Physics Section of 87th Session of Indian Science Congress Association in the year 2000.He has been the Vice –President(1988-2004) and (2008-to date) of Asian African Association for Plasma Training (AAAPT) , President(1999-2000) and Vice President (1990-91) of Plasma Science Society of India. He has been an Associate member (1983) of International Center for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy. He has been involved in the organization of various International and National Conferences as Member/Co-Chairman of organizing committee and Member International Advisory Committee. He has been Member of American Physical Society, New York Academy of Sciences, American Geophysical Union and Life Members of National Academy of Sciences, India, Plasma Science Society of India and Indian Science congress Association. Member, Editorial Board, Indian Journal of Pure and Applied Physics, Frontier Applied Plasma technology, Japan. Prof. Srivastava has wide and varied academic administrative experience. He worked as Head of the Department of Physics and Astrophysics (2004-07), Chairman, Board of Research Studies (Sciences) (2006-07), Warden , International Students House (1980-85). He has been Member of Academic Council, Delhi University (2001-03) as a Professor out of his seniority amongst Professors. of DU. He has been Member (External) of Faculty of Science of University of Rajasthan, Jaipur (1993-95), University of Lucknow, Lucknow (1999-01), Devi Ahilya University, Indore(1999-01) , Banaras Hindu University (2005-08) External Member Board of Studies, University of Allahabad (2008-to date) and on many committees of C.B.S.E., Chancellors nominee in a University and Member, Governing Body of several colleges of Delhi University. Member Expert group of UGC for Assessment of COSIST Grants, Review of CAS and Project assessment of UGC, DST etc. Member, Expert Review, Committee of UGC for XIth Plan etc.

Research Interest

Nanoparticles,Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology, Laser Shadowgraphic studies of Plasma sheath and Plasma dynamics in DPF. Studies of X-rays, Ion beam signals and electron signals from DPF. Some of the topics of interest in Theoretical Physics are: Kinetic Theory of Plasmas, Transport phenomena, Plasma waves and instabilities, Laser Plasma Interaction-Megagauss Magnetic Field Generation, Space Plasmas, Fusion Plasmas, Wave Interaction in Plasmas, Nonlinear wave Interaction, Chaotic phenomena, Short laser pulse interaction in Plasmas, Laser Plasma Channeling, Dusty Plasmas, Positron annihilation in gases, Solid state plasmas and allied areas in Solid state Physics.
