Dr. Marcia Rachel's career has included serving as executive director of the Mississippi Board of Nursing, chief nursing executive at the University of Mississippi Medical Center Hospitals and Clinics and nurse educator at the graduate and undergraduate levels. She has also worked as both a home-health nurse and a mental health nurse.
She has served as president of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing and as president of the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools. She currently chairs the Scholarship and Committee and serves on the Nightingale Committee for the Mississippi Nurses Foundation and is a member of the Mississippi Organization of Nurse Executives, the Mississippi Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau and the American Nurses Association. Honors include induction in Sigma Theta Tau, Phi Kappa Phi and Kappa Delta Pi and she is a recipient of the R. Louise McManus award from NCSBN.
Currently serving as an appraiser for the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program and certified as an Advanced Nurse Executive through the American Nurses Credentialing Center, she also consults with organizations regarding evidence-based practice, strategic planning, leadership and management issues and regulatory issues in nursing.
Her publications and presentations are primarily related to leadership issues, quality improvement and internationally-educated nurses, and she serves as a peer reviewer and sentinel reviewer/rater of articles for several entities. She volunteers with her church as a congregational health nurse.
