Biography

 Dr. Michael Jhung is a medical epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) where he performs disease surveillance, prevention, investigation, and response activities. He received his BS (1989) and MS (1994) degrees from the University of Michigan, and his MD (2002) from Case Western Reserve University. He completed a year of clinical training in Emergency Medicine followed by a Preventive Medicine residency at the University of Michigan, where he received his MPH in Epidemiology (2004). Dr. Jhung is board certified in General Preventive Medicine and Public Health and is a 2007 graduate of the Epidemic Intelligence Service program at CDC. 
 
Dr. Jhung has been involved in public health science since 2003 and maintains an active interest in communicable disease epidemiology, infection control in resource limited settings, and the public health response to disasters and emergencies. In his capacity as a medical epidemiologist, he has conducted multiple infectious and non-infectious outbreak investigations, and has contributed to the design and evaluation of national surveillance systems for healthcare associated events. He is actively involved in public health education at CDC and has developed training exercises for CDC fellows, whom he regularly supervises on issues related to study design, data analysis, and outbreak investigations. Dr. Jhung has been a commissioned officer in the United States Public Health Service since 2005 and currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Commander
