Dr. Michel White is a cardiologist and Director of the Heart Failure Research Group at the Montreal Heart Institute. He is the inaugural holder of the Carolyn and Richard J. Renaud Canada Research Chair in Heart Failure, the first of its kind in Quebec, and is also an associate professor in the faculty of medicine at the University of Montreal.
Mr. White's work is primarily aimed at studying the role of changes in biomarkers that could predict the progression of heart failure - even in extreme conditions, and in extreme sports. Mr. White has led four expeditions on three continents in the company of heart and kidney transplant patients, taking on the physical assault of climbing Mount Mera in Nepal, Mount Blanc in the Alps, and Mount Sajama in Bolivia, among others. He was part of the medical observation team for two transplant survivors who set world records for climbing altitude in 2004, part of an event to raise awareness for the issue of signing transplant donor cards.
Mr. White has published numerous research articles and given lectures across Canada, the United States and Europe. He sits on several advisory groups and steering committees for international studies, and is also a member of the editorial board for the prestigious publication, Journal of Cardiac Failure.
