Dr. Orly Sarid received her PhD in social work from the Kreitman School of Advanced Graduate Studies, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, where she currently teaches as a lecturer and serves as the head of the fieldwork unit in the Social Work Department. She specializes in the interface between emotions, stress and health. Her research on the attitudes of Jewish Israelis to minority groups and on gelotophobia (fear of being laughed at) is particularly relevant for our study of conflict-related emotions. Dr. Sarid will be responsible for a contrastive study on emotion terms meaning in Jewish and Arabic Hebrew speakers in Israel within the realm of subproject 1. Her proficiency as a native speaker of Hebrew, easy access to culturally and linguistically varied populations, her psychological training on the impact of emotional processes on the person and the impact of the cultural environment on the individual, make her particularly valuable in the development of subproject 1 and as a consultant for the research team in the remaining subprojects.
