Prof/Dr. Paulo Antas has received his PhD at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (Fiocruz) in Brazil during the period of 2005. Currently, he is working as Research Associate at Fiocruz. His research has included developmental research on the field of immune response of human infections and vaccinations. Most of his scientific time is currently dedicated to study several aspects of the immune response in tuberculosis, such as the involvement of inflammatory cytokines, and the T cells on the immune response to mycobacterium as a whole. Part of his study has also focused on identifying an immunologic predisposition to extrapulmonary tuberculosis in projects related to cytokine detection in patients with tuberculosis. Based on this research and fellowship training he has received several awards and honors, such as: The Global Health Travel Awards, International Symposium of Nitric Oxide, Cytokines and Inflammation Award, Bio-Plex Technology & Assays Award, Becton & Dickinson Award and Yakult Award. He is serving as expert Reviewers for journals like The Journal of Infectious Diseases, Memorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, Immunology, Journal of Medical Microbiology, Bentham Science Publishers, International Journal of Dermatology, African Journal of Agricultural Research, Human Immunology, International Immunopharmacology, Cytokine, Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Yonsei Medical Journal, Current Genomics and Journal of Clinical Immunology. He has authored 29 research articles and 3 books.
