Biography

Dr. Pierre R. Bushel received his Ph.D. in bioinformatics from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC in May 2005 and a Master’s of Science degree in molecular and cellular biology from Long Island University, Brooklyn, NY in September 1989. Currently, he is working as a staff scientist in the Biostatistics Branch at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and is also the head of the Microarray and Genome Informatics Group at NIEHS. His research includes the development of computational algorithms and integration strategies for toxicogenomics data, eQTL analysis, data mining, database development, and specialized phenotypic clustering and statistical model building for classification and prediction. Based on various components of his research, Dr. Bushel has received several awards and honors, such as the NIH Director’s Award in June 2002 and the NIH/NIEHS Award of Merit December in December 2000, 2001 & 2003. He served as adjunct professor at Duke University, Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences, Integrated Toxicology and Environmental Health Program and was a Yerby visiting assistant professor of bioinformatics and computational biology at the Harvard School of Public Health, Department of Biostatistics with a joint appointment in the Department of Environmental Health. He is serving as an editorial member of several up-and-coming journals like Frontiers in Toxicogenomics and OA Bioinformatics as well as expert reviewer for reputed journals like Genome Biology, Bioinformatics, BMC (Bioinformatics, Genomics, Systems Biology and Medical Genomics), PLoS (Genetics and One), Libertas Academica, Molecular and Cellular Probes, Toxicological Sciences and Physiological Genomics. He has authored over 75 research articles and five book chapters. He is a co-founder and co-organizer of the Toxicogenomics Integrated with Environmental Sciences (TIES) conferences
