Associate Professor Cardiovascular Research Institute

Biography

Qing Song is an associate professor of Cardiovascular Research Institute of Morehouse School of Medicine. Dr. Song earned his undergraduate degree from Peking University (1987), and his M.D. degree from Peking Union Medical College (1992). He completed his graduate studies at Medical University of South Carolina and earned his Ph.D. degree in 1999. Dr. Song is a member of American Heart Association and a member of American Society of Human Genetics. The longstanding interest of Dr. Songs research is to understand the molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular disease, obesity and diabetes, using an integrated approach of bench and computational methods. One of the major objectives is to define the causal and functional role of genetic variants in human diseases, for early pre-symptom diagnosis, prevention and development of effective treatment in the era of personalized medicine.

Research Interest

The functional studies of genetic variants and epigenetic variants in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease; the functional role of environmental exposures in a person’s early life experiences in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease; the homeostasis of reactive oxygen species in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease; the functional role of pseudogenes and repetitive elements; technology development and analytical software development.
