Rout GR

Rout GR Department of Biotechnology College of Agriculture OUAT, Bhubaneswar, India

Biography
Prof. Rout earned Ph.D and D.Sc degree from Utkal university, Bhubaneswar for his research contribution on establishing the plant regeneration from single somatic cell through biochemical and molecular mechanism. He has made significant contribution in different fields of research in plant biotechnology and notable among them are (i) plant regeneration of various plant species including horticultural crops, medicinal & aromatic plants and forestry species, (ii) biodiversity & conservation of different plant species including forest trees and its molecular characterization (iii) abiotic stress tolerant in crop plants. He has illustrate the beneficial role of nickel in plant cellular metabolism and its characterization. He has made the frontier areas of research on medicinal and aromatic plants, forest species and crop plants through molecular profiling for establishing the conservation strategies in plant genetic resources. His group has identified new DREB’s genes (Abiotic stress) in Indica rice genotypes and included in the database of National Centre for Biotechnology Information (NCBI,USA), European Molecular Biology Database, UK and DNA Data bank of Japan (2013). The Accession No. are KF545561, KF545562, KF545563, KF545564, KF545565, KF545566, KF545567, KF545568, KF545569. He also worked on crop improvement program at Federal Research Centre on Ornamental and Plant Breeding, Germany, and University of East London, United Kingdom. He has been invited as lead speaker in the different conferences held at National institute of Technology, Rourkela, Sambalpur University, Utkal university and Indian science congress (Orissa chapter) to deliver the talk in frontier area of plant biotechology. He has guided 35 post graduate students and 8 Ph.D students. Some of them are faculty members of University and Government. Prof. Rout has visited a number countries such as Japan, Belgium, Netherland, United Kingdom and Germany for the collaborative research work. He has brought out more than 185 research publications, out of which around 130 publications are in International journals of reputes. He has published 20 book chapters in different edited books published by National and International publishers. He has reviewed many research papers of International Journals. He has edited a book “Molecular Stress Physiology of Plants” published by Springer. He is member of New York Academy of Sciences, New York, Indian Society of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi, Indian Science Congress Association, Kolkata, National Academy of Sciences, India, Allhabad. He was awarded SERC visiting fellowship, BOYSCAST fellowship and DBT-Overseas Fellowship funded by Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. International Biotechnology Fellowship (1999) funded by FAO/IAEA/BADA, Belgium. He has been awarded as a Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, India (FNASc) for the year 1999 on the field of Plant Biotechnology and the Samanta Chandra Shekher Award for the year 2005 on the field of Life Sciences by Orissa Bigyan Academy, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Orissa. He has been awarded Technology Leadership Awards-13 and Excellence in Technology Research and Academician of the year 2014 by EducationexpoTV, New Delhi. He has been awarded as a Fellow of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, India (FNAAS) for the year 2015 on the field of Horticultural Sciences.
