Ricardo Sobhie Diaz was born in Brazil in 6 of June of 1962. He earned his MD in 1986 and received his training on Infectious Diseases from 1997 to 1999. He received his MSc in infectious diseases in 1991 and his PhD in 1993. He received his three years post-doctoral training in Laboratory Medicine at the Blood Centers of Pacific, San Francisco, California from 1993 to 1996, focusing on research related to the genetic diversity of HIV and its relationship with pathogenesis. He is now an associate professor of the Infectious Diseases Division of the Paulista School of Medicine at the Federal University of Sao Paulo. He is the head of the Retrovirology Laboratory at the Federal University of Sao Paulo conducting translational research in HIV/AIDS. Dr Diaz has contributed with over 100 articles to scientific publications with key contributions to the understanding of double HIV infection and recombination. Under Dr Diaz leadership his group is exploring details in the Brazilian HIV genetic diversity, recently describing the first HIV Brazilian Circulating Recombinant Forms. He is also a consultant for the STD/AIDS Division of the Brazilian Ministry of Health in the areas of clinics and laboratory and part of various committees.
