Sharron Dolan

Dr Sharron Dolan graduated with a BSc (hons) in Developmental Biology from the University of Glasgow in 1989 and subsequently undertook a PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Stirling with Dr Peter Cahusac. After completing her PhD in 1996, she took up a BBSRC funded post-doctoral position with Professor Andrea Nolan at Glasgow University’s Veterinary School, working to characterise the spinal mechanisms of inflammatory pain and analgesia. Sharron was appointed to a lectureship position in the Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences at Glasgow Caledonian University in January 2004, becoming senior lecturer in 2009, and in 2011 was appointed Subject Lead in Physiology and Pharmacology in the newly established Department of Life Sciences. She has subsequently taken on the role of Assistant Head of Department of Life Sciences. Dr Dolan’s research over the past 18 years has focussed on understanding the neuronal mechanisms of pain and analgesia. As part of the Institute of Applied Health’s Diabetes and Biomedical Sciences Research group, her more recent research has focused on co-morbid pain with diabetes and obesity. She currently has 3 PhD students in her research group and has published 23 full research papers in internationally recognised journals and an invited book chapter (for World Organisation for Animal Health).
