Biography
Since joining the faculty at the University of Chicago in 1998, Dr. Utset has developed a large clinical practice of patients with lupus who are devoted to her and the compassionate and expert care that she provides. Many participate in lupusclinical trials that she helps to run.
Additionally a teacher and mentor, Dr. Utset has helped to motivate and guide the careers of a new generation of rheumatologists through her work as program director of the university’s rheumatology fellowship program. Over the years she has taught Continuing Medical Education-credit courses on such topics as late lupus, lupus pregnancy, and CNS lupus as well as contributing to programs that educate lay people about the disease. A few years ago, Chicago’s Life with Lupus Guild presented her with the “Golden Butterfly Public Service Award” in recognition of her generous participation in this area.
