Shyh-Horng Chiou

Biography

Thomas S.-H. Chiou received his BS (1971, Pharmaceutical Science) and MS (1974, Organic Chemistry) degrees from National Taiwan University. He then obtained his Ph.D. degree from Colorado State University (1979, Biochemistry). After postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard Medical School (1979-1981) and Stanford Magnetic Resonance Laboratory (1981-1982), he joined Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine (1982-1984) as a research scientist. He then moved back Taiwan to become a full professor at the Institute of Biochemical Sciences of National Taiwan University (1985-2008) and a senior research fellow at Academia Sinica (1986-2008). He was the director of the Institute of Biochemical Sciences at National Taiwan University (2002-2005). He also served as the associate director of the Institute of Biological Chemistry at Academia Sinica (2001-2002). He is currently a special chair professor at Kaohsiung Medical University (2009~) with a joint appointment at the Institute of Biological Chemistry, Academia Sinica (2009~). He was appointed as the director of the Center for Research Resources and Development of Kaohsiung Medical University (2009-2012). His current research is devoted to the application of protein biochemistry and quantitative proteomics approaches to the study of clinical proteomics and human diseases
