Dr. Zhi-Ping Liu was graduated from University of Science and Technology of China with BA in Computer Science in 1982. She then went to Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and got her Master degree in Biochemistry in 1986. In 1994, she got her PhD in Biophysics from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She did her Post-doc training with Dr. Steve A. Wasserman in fly genetics, then with Dr. Eric N Olson in cardiovascular development in mice. She started her independent career as Assistant Professor in Cardiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in 2005 and became tenured Associate Professor in 2012. The major interest of her lab is to understand the transcriptional regulatory mechanisms involved in human disease with a focus on cardiovascular diseases and cancer using a multidisciplinary approach, including molecular and cellular biology, genetics, biochemistry, immunology and electrophysiology.
